Welcome to 2220 Acton Street
A Legacy of Art, Love, and Berkeley Charm
40 years ago, in 1986, a prolific neighborhood artist unlocked the front door of this airy, wood-shingled Craftsman Bungalow and began a lifetime of beautiful memories. Over the next four decades, this home served as a sanctuary where she raised her family, nurtured her craft, and poured her soul into every corner. From the towering backyard redwood, which was once a modest family Christmas tree, to the vibrant studio spaces where countless pieces of art came to life, 2220 Acton is more than just a house. It is a living canvas of a life deeply loved and beautifully lived, now ready for its next chapter.
Stepping inside this two bedroom one bathroom quintessential Berkeley Craftsman, you are immediately greeted by an abundance of natural light and beautiful period details. The welcoming living room is highlighted by a cozy fireplace that adds warmth and timeless character. Adjacent lies the formal dining room, boasting original built-in cabinets and hardwood floors that offer an inviting backdrop for memorable gatherings. The bright kitchen features ample storage, a new refrigerator, and a freshly updated countertop, sink, and faucet. Both serene bedrooms are positioned at the rear of the home, facing the deep and peaceful yard. The bathroom features a classic clawfoot tub and shower, allowing you to freshen up in vintage style. Tucked off the kitchen, a charming spiral staircase leads you down to the finished basement rooms. Once bustling with art supplies and works-in-progress, this versatile area also offers laundry facilities and plenty of extra storage space. Further enjoy peace of mind with practical infrastructure upgrades, including an updated electrical panel and newer roof.
The beautifully landscaped front and backyards are designed for effortless outdoor entertaining or quiet summer evenings. The attached garage is a creator's dream; it comes equipped with track lighting once used to gallery-display finished artwork, alongside a 220v outlet specifically installed to power a pottery kiln. From the finished basement, elegant French doors swing open to a new patio. Follow the winding flagstone path deeper into the yard, where the historic family redwood tree now provides a majestic canopy of shade. Cultivate your own farm-to-table lifestyle with raised garden beds perfect for vegetables, surrounded by fresh, intentional plantings that invite the local bees and butterflies.
Nestled on a quiet, tree-lined street in Berkeley’s Poet’s Corner neighborhood, this home offers a perfect blend of tight-knit community warmth and urban convenience. You are just two houses down from Charlie Dorr Mini Park and the Berkeley Lawn Bowling Club, as well as right around the corner from Strawberry Creek Park, where neighbors gather for volleyball, tennis, soccer, and basketball. With a Bike Score of 99 and a Walk Score of 88, you are less than a mile from the North Berkeley BART station and enjoy quick, easy freeway access. Conveniently located near University Avenue, you are moments away from a vibrant array of cafes, local shops, and restaurants that lead right to the heart of the UC Berkeley campus.
Come experience the warmth, history, and unparalleled location of this quintessential Berkeley bungalow!

A few words from the seller
I finally found home when I was able to buy the house I’d lived in from the family I had been renting from for five years, a redwood petticoat shingled house on a quiet street which had a full basement. I was expecting and my husband and I had been finding ourselves in the midst of life changes. Our lives went through many transitions and the house was a safe haven for our friends and family too.
I feel each house has its own unique style, and certainly 2220 Acton Street is a place of ever growing possibilities, a life I’d never even dreamed of. Whoever you are that becomes the owner of a house with so many windows and views, I often thought of her as a bird nest…enjoy the beautiful past, present, and future about to unfold in a house made of redwood and air.
