The Scoop

Traditional Bones with Modern Flavors

Fabulous Temescal Craftsman alert! This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home hits all the marks. Extensively remodeled in 2023, the chef’s kitchen is an entertainer’s dream with distinctive Café Series appliances, custom cabinets, an induction stove top, a flush ceiling range hood, double ovens, and two wine fridges. To call the kitchen the heart of the home is an understatement. There’s ample space for several cooks and a peninsula for buffet-style serving or countertop dining. The open-concept floor plan allows for large gatherings to mingle with the chef from the formal dining area.

Upstairs you’re in for a surprise. The attic has been converted into a delightful and flexible plus space that runs the entire length of the house and offers a nice room-to-grow opportunity.

Two beautifully updated full baths, one has a pebble-floored shower which doubles as a dog washing station. Dual pane windows are nicely fitted with custom shutters throughout. And there’s loads of storage. Everything has been thoughtfully considered.

Love to garden? There’s prime veggie growing in perimeter-placed raised garden beds and even a potato box. Slate pavers and a crushed stone Euro-style patio completes the fully fenced backyard. Many green and smart features including solar panels and EV charger.

Temescal has some of Oakland’s best shopping and eateries just around the corner. With a WalkScore® 94 and BikeScore™ 96, it’s hard to beat the convenience.

 Learn more about Oakland

Temescal is a Tasty Neighborhood

Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in North Oakland, Temescal is filled with plenty of rich history, and is a fun place to call home. Temescal features a variety of real estate options, from cozy condos to spacious two-story homes, and everything in between. Most of the single family homes in the neighborhood were built during the 1910s and 1920s, with all of the charm of the early 20th-century, but with fully renovated interiors and exteriors. If you have been in the market for a North Oakland neighborhood with a vibrant commercial district, recreation centers, and convenient access to public transportation and highways, Temescal is a great place to search.

Two of Temescal’s most popular public facilities are located near the intersection of Shafter Avenue and 45th Street; the most notable of these facilities is the Studio One Arts Center. In addition to its annual array of Art Camps, Studio One Arts Center also provides a variety of classes in the Performing Arts, hands-on crafts, painting, and so much more. Adjacent to the Arts Center is the Temescal Pool, which is a great place for adults and kids who want to swim laps, or simply cool off during the summer months. When Temescal residents need to shop, run errands or enjoy a meal with friends and family, they usually head to Telegraph Avenue, which serves as the main commercial district of the neighborhood.

The restaurants along Telegraph Avenue feature several different ethnic cuisines, as well as a tasty option for any time of day. Some of the notable restaurants include: The CRO Cafe: Located just east of Telegraph Avenue, along 49th Street, this small cafe offers big flavor via their hand-crafted espresso drinks, pastries, and granola. Their outdoor seating provides the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a morning pick-me-up. Bird & Buffalo: The name of this popular Thai restaurant may not be what you’d expect, their menu certainly delivers for Thai cuisine enthusiasts. Whether it’s a bowl of Drunken Noodles or something hot off the grill, this is the perfect spot for a tasty lunch or dinner. Asmara: One of several Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in Temescal, Asmara has been serving delicious North-African cuisine since 1985. In addition to their authentic Eritrean dishes, they also offer smoothies, an incredible cocktail menu, and Tej, a homemade honey wine.

MacArthur BART Station is located near the southwest corner of Temescal, and provides convenient access to Downtown Oakland (south) Downtown San Francisco (west), Berkeley (north), and the Coliseum. Plus, there are numerous bus routes that service the Temescal neighborhood, making it simple to travel to nearby neighborhoods such as Bushrod, Emeryville, and Longfellow. State Route 24 hugs the western border of Temescal, which connects seamlessly with Interstates 580 and 980.
