About this

Neighborhood

Kentfield, with 6,400 of those souls, lies on the eastern and mostly level side of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Greenbrae and Ross. Kent Woodlands—population about 1,700—occupies that lush, rolling slope of Mount Tamalpais behind College of Marin. If Kentfield had a social center, it would probably be Woodlands Market that hosts a community barbecue with all funds raised benefiting the Kentfield School District. Both Bacich Elementary and Kent Middle Schools have been named “California Distinguished Schools". The public high school is Redwood (also a California Distinguished School) in Larkspur. Close-by private high schools include Branson, Marin Catholic, and Marin Academy. Downtown Ross offers a handful independently owned boutiques as well as beauty salons and a dry cleaning service. Ross' very own Breaking Away Bikes has everything for the casual rider to mountain biker. Busy Bees is American prep dressing for children at its best. Fine dining and casual cafes can be found in Ross. Marché Restaurant offers bistro style dining, Trattoria Fresco offers a variety of delicious appetizers and salads freshly made pastas, seafood, and outstanding grilled entrees. Enjoy high tea at Crown and Crumpet and coffee and pastries at Village Corner. Ross has easy access to Mount Tamalpais' many hiking and biking trails. Phoenix Lake, part of Mount Tam Watershed, is a lovely walk along its shore with views of the surrounding hills. Bicycling is ideal in Ross' gently rolling landscape. For the more adventurous the many bike trails on the Mountain are celebrated worldwide. Ross' annual Fourth of July event is a town occasion.
